1. Facebook Beacon
With this feature, Facebook would keep an eye on their users’ online purchases and sell this information to advertisers. Suppose, when you buy a product online, even if you were not logged in to Facebook, Facebook would collect the news of your purchase using browser cookie and show you the next purchase suggestion with this information from the advertisers. It was phased out in late 2006 as a threat to privacy.
2. Facebook Credit
Virtual currency was introduced on Facebook for the purchase of various services known as ‘Facebook Credit’. 10 Facebook credits were available for 1 USD which could be used to buy various features / content for games. Although I wanted to use Facebook more versatilely, in the end it was not successful. It was finally shut down in late 2012.
3. Facebook Places
To compete with location sharing apps like Foursquare, Facebook launched the ‘Places’ feature in their mobile app. Users could check in from different locations. But it was not popular with Facebookers. The service is then integrated with the status update by deleting ‘Places’ completely.

In 2011, the social media site launched the ‘Deals’ feature to compete with services such as Groupon, Living Social, etc., which offered discounts to buyers from local businesses. While the purpose is great, this feature also fails.
5. Subscribe to Facebook
In September 2011, Facebook launched a feature called ‘Subscribe’ to follow popular Facebook profiles. Through this, people outside the subscriber’s friend list also got access to their public posts. The name was changed to ‘Follow’ in December of the following year.

10. Facebook Gift
With Facebook’s Gift Feature, you can send real gifts like candy, animals, etc. to your friends. It was like a marketplace. But the real-life gift-giving feature was removed last year as it failed to achieve the expected popularity.
