45,000 Android smartphones infected with Exhelper malware

Exhelper downloads some code to the remote server phone immediately after installation. This app shows ads on the phone through these codes. Through this, the developers of this app are getting good amount of revenue. These ads are mainly centered around different apps in Playstore. This may seem like a simple thing to do, but it does not end there.

Once installed, it automatically removes its icon from the homescreen, so users can’t delete the app. But this is not the end. Many people may think that this app can be deleted by going to the app manager of the settings app. Although the app can be uninstalled in this manner, the app returns to the phone after some time.

This app is automatically updated from time to time so that developers do not have to come up with an Exhelper solution. No solution has been found for this malware app yet.

In 2013, researchers at Kaspersky Lab discovered a type of malware that fooled antivirus and remained on the device. After a couple of years, a total of 20,000 users were infected with this type of malware.

It was later revealed that the code for this malware was hidden in the mod version of popular apps. Researchers have suggested that you avoid downloading apps from outside the Play Store to protect yourself from such malware.
