Dr. The wife and obstetrician of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, Prof. Dr. Munira Ferdousi. The event was broadcast live on the official Facebook page of Prothom Alo and Digital Hospital on December 6.
If a couple cannot conceive for a year without using birth control, it is called infertility. Infertility can affect both men and women. A couple may face this problem for various reasons. Dr. Munira Ferdousi said that when a couple goes to the doctor with this problem, their history is known first.
In a detailed explanation, she said, many factors work in the case of women. In their case, the first thing to look at is regular menstruation. Because, if it is right, ovulation is also right. Then it is seen whether there is any problem in the uterus. There may be congenital problems in the uterus. Such as abnormal shape, two uteruses, two parts in the uterus or tumors etc. Infertility can occur even if there are problems with the tubal factor and cervix.
In the case of males, the value of semen or sperm is counted first. If there is no such problem, then the next step is to do other investigations, said Dr. Munira Ferdousi.
Women have to go through many tests to diagnose this problem. But only a test of men can be done. For this Dr. Munira Ferdousi’s advice is to test her husband’s semen first. If his problem is caught, then it will not be necessary to spend a lot of money to check his wife.
The women underwent ultrasonogram and tube hysterosalpingography as well as hormone and diabetes tests. Treatment is started according to the results of these tests. However, Dr. Munira Ferdousi said counseling is much more important before starting treatment. Because, many women are under stress due to not having children. It is too late to conceive for extra anxiety and stress. Then drugs such as ovulation inducer drugs are given. Regular follow-up should be done after taking the medicine. Because, such drugs cannot be taken for a long time.
IUI was also discussed at the event. Intra uterine insemination or IUI is usually done if there is a problem in the semen of a man or if there is a lot of discharge in a woman. In this method, the husband’s semen is purified and placed in the uterus through a tube during ovulation. In addition, another artificial insemination method is called ‘test tube baby’ or IVF. IVF is recommended if the husband has a problem with semen or if the wife is not ovulating properly or if she is older. Earlier, medicines and injections were given to fix the walls of the uterus and to make the ovum sit well. The egg and the husband’s sperm are then fertilized in the lab. This fertilized egg is then implanted in the uterus.
Dr. Munira Ferdousi said about the social context of Bangladesh, ‘We are reluctant to use the word infertility. It can be called subfertile or less fertile. It is possible to solve this problem through proper treatment. The saddest thing is that in our country only girls are blamed for not having children. For this they have to go through a lot of mental turmoil. In 40 percent of cases, if the girl does not have a child, then in 40 percent of the cases the man does not have a child. In some cases, both may be responsible. Again, even if no one has any problem, there are also incidents like not having children. So no girl can be blamed alone. You can’t tell him you’re responsible. It does not cause ovulation. For this reason, Dr. advised to help him and stay by his side without talking to any girl unnecessarily. Munira Ferdousi.
