In the last few months, Xiaomi has launched several new models of smartphones. Among them Redmi Note 4Redmi Pro, MI5S, MI Mix Etc. are significant. Coming to the market in August 2018 Redmi Pro The smartphone is Xiaomi’s first phone with two cameras on the back. And there is a selfie camera on the front. It also has an AMOLED display. Redmi Pro is Xiaomi’s first AMOLED display rich phone. There are also unibody metal structures. There is a fingerprint sensor with home button on the front of the phone. I have been using a Xiaomi Redmi Pro phone for over a month now. Here is my experience.
First of all, I would like to give the detailed specification of the device:
- 5.5 inch LTPS AMOLED display (1080 x 1920p resolution, 401ppi). 18 million colors.
- Android 7 Marshmallow OS, MIUI 7
- MediaTek processor with 10 cores.
- Three different variations. MediaTek Helio X20 (2.1 GHz) processor (Standard Edition) with 32 GB storage + 3 GB RAM. MediaTek Helio X25 (2.5 GHz) processor (high edition) with 64 GB storage + 3 GB RAM. MediaTek Helio X25 (2.5 GHz) processor (exclusive edition) with 128 GB storage + 4 GB RAM.

If you convert the lowest price of Redmi Pro smartphone to Tk.
I am using the standard model of Redmi Pro, which has 32 GB storage and 3 GB RAM. This time I am sharing my experience.
Design
Like the full metal body of the Redmi Pro. This is made more attractive by having a very limited amount of space around the screen. The edges of the screen are slightly curved, which you will also like. There is a notification light on the left side of the earpiece. There are two capacitive buttons on either side of the home button, which cannot be seen when the lights are off. This type of button design is suitable for this phone. If the button was printed like the Redmi Note 3, it would not fit.
The special feature of the home button is that it can be worked with the push of a button, but it can be continued with a touch. If you turn on the Home button’s ‘Tap’ functionality from Settings, you will no longer have to press the Home button, but will be able to return to the Home screen by touching it. Quick touch (tapping) on the screen twice in a row turns on the screen light, which is called ‘double tap’ feature. Then the phone can be unlocked with the help of fingerprint. The fingerprint sensor is off when the screen is off. In my experience, the double tap feature doesn’t always work. After quickly touching the screen 5-6 times instead of twice, the screen wakes up (monitor light turns on). I think Shaomi should do more with the double tap feature. The screen can also be turned on by pressing the Power, Home and Volume buttons.
Redmi Pro has a glossy metal casing on the back of the phone, with a sleek landscape design. This is known as ‘brushed metal’ design. It looks like a sack that encloses with a drawstring. That is why it is called brushed metal design.
At the top of the device is a headphone jack and remote controller (IR / infrared) sensor and secondary microphone. At the bottom end is the primary microphone, USB-C port and loudspeaker.
This phone uses USB Type-C port. The micro USB ports that are currently used in most Android phones require that one end of the plug be placed at the top and the other end at the bottom when connecting the data cable. But the advantage of USB-C is that you can put any end of the data cable up or down when connecting the specific cable to the phone, so that the phone can be charged with the eyes closed. There is no possibility of reverse port.
Sensor
Redmi Pro phones have almost all the sensors that are usually needed. Notable sensors are fingerprint, gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass. There is also GPS, WiFi, FM radio (with recorder) and Bluetooth 4.
Screen
I have already mentioned the screen specification of Redmi Pro. I am reminding you again. It has a 5.5 inch LTPS AMOLED display (1080 x 1920 p resolution, 401 ppi, 16 million colors). The brightness and color contrast of the screen is quite beautiful. I like it. Touch sensitivity is good. I’m not using any screen protector glass. So far no scratches on the screen.
Software
Xiaomi Redmi Pro phone has Android 8.0 Marshmallow operating system. It also has MIUI 7 user interface (launcher). If you’ve been a regular visitor to this site, you may remember, before In the review of Redmi Note 3 I talked about my favorite thing about MIUI’s design. Now again, MIUI’s design is really nice, and it’s gotten even more beautiful in the 8th edition. It has some additional benefits. Shaomi’s own security app has many more features including antivirus, app permissions, battery management, spam message / call filter, network test, data usage control, file cleaning.
If you do not give ‘auto start’ permission to certain apps through the security app, then those apps will not work properly. This is for security reasons but in some cases it is also a cause of problems. For example, if you don’t give the Gmail app auto-start permission, it won’t synchronize when a new email arrives after the phone is turned on. As a result, you will not know the news of new emails until you open the Gmail app.
If your Xiaomi phone does not have Global ROM, it will not have Google Play Store. You have to install it yourself. Although Shaomi has its own app store ‘MI Store’, you will find very few necessary apps there. So you have to take the Play Store through the ‘Google Installer’ app. That’s what I did.
MIUI Eight In this version you can create a separate user account by creating ‘second space’ in the phone. You can also copy any app and leave it for other users to use as a new active app. It is possible to lock applications or other options using the app lock feature. Then, even when the phone is unlocked, you have to verify the new password / fingerprint to launch those apps or options.
MIUI has an automatic call recorder option, although recording conversations without someone’s permission can be considered unethical in many cases.
Having a backup-restore option allows you to restore all your settings, contacts and apps, leaving a backup.
Simply put, Redmi Pro’s software and user interface are like a choice.
The camera
I know you’re curious about the Redmi Pro’s camera. In this part, the size of the photo taken with Redmi Pro is sometimes reduced and posted. It will give you an idea of its ability to capture light.
The camera quality of the Redmi Pro is better than the Redmi Note 3. The front camera is the same as the previous models. However, having two lenses in the back camera will give you some extra benefits. By default, only the 13-megapixel lens (the lens at the top) of the back camera is used for taking pictures.
Both lenses are used in stereo mode. Then the size of the still image increases (8-9 MB) which is 3-4 MB in case of a lens.
The focus of images taken in stereo mode can be changed later. There is also a light 3D effect, which is not possible in the default mode.
If there is good light, beautiful pictures are taken on the phone. It would not be right to expect better pictures on this budget phone. Redmi Pro’s camera quality average in low light.
Turn on the flash to get a better picture. I wasn’t too impressed with the Redmi Note 3’s camera, but the Redmi Pro’s camera is relatively good.
Audio and music
No earphones are provided with the Redmi Pro phone. This is a common occurrence in the case of Xiaomi phones. The call quality and music quality of this phone is good. FM radio runs without earphones, the sound quality is not bad. Some of Shaomi’s Piston brand earphones / headphones are available at prices ranging from Rs. 800 to Rs. 1000+. If you buy them, you can enjoy the audio quite well.
Battery
The battery backup of Xiaomi Pro phone is excellent. Even if you keep the data on all the time and browse for three-four hours, one day it will go away effortlessly. With the help of the phone’s charger, it takes 2 to 3 hours for the battery to be fully charged. If the battery level is less than 30% or so, then the phone gets heated significantly when charged (35-36 degree Celsius according to the security app). Chargers and ports also heat up significantly.
However, if you use it continuously for a long time, the phone will not get so hot. The data that came with my Redmi Note 3 charger was lost in just 8-9 months. I care a lot about my devices, so it doesn’t feel good to lose data on the Redmi Note 3 just like that. Let’s see how this Redmi Pro cable works.
USB-C
The Redmi Pro’s data is only USB-C type so you can’t connect the most popular micro USB cables to it right now.
Understand the difference between USB-C and the currently widely used micro USB connector by looking at the picture above. USB-C is capable of providing high speed and power flow using advanced technology. However, since it is still not very common, so for now you have to buy a micro USB >> USB-C adapter, or you have to carry a charger-data cable to go somewhere. Otherwise, when the charge is over, it will not work without seeing your own appearance on the display of the closed mobile.
Xiaomi Cloud
Shaomi has a variety of services that are extremely useful. Phonebooks can be synchronized in MI Cloud. You can keep pictures, audio, video etc. in its 5 GB free cloud storage.
MI Assistant
Xiaomi also has virtual assistant apps like Microsoft Cortana, Google Alo and Apple Siri. Its name is MI Assistant, which currently only works in Chinese. Launching the app and giving voice commands, I don’t understand what “Hong Chong Pong Chang Pew” means. Hopefully in the near future it will (at least) understand English.
PC Suite Software
Remember the Nokia PC Suite / Avi Suite / Nokia Suite software? Those softwares could be installed on the computer to sync Nokia phone data, backup and software updates, etc. could be done. Xiaomi also has a similar software called MI PC Suite. But MI PC Suite doesn’t work with Redmi Pro at all. This software works partially with the Redmi Note 3, but it cannot detect the Redmi Pro phone.
Conclusion
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 In my experience there were some negative points, most of which were overcome Redmi Pro. However, it is a bit frustrating not being able to integrate it with PC Suite software. I am 80% satisfied with Redmi Pro’s speed, performance, design, screen, software and more. The phone has never hung up yet. However, its back button became useless a few times, which started working again after restarting the phone. All in all, I will give the phone 60 numbers out of 100.
Do you use Xiaomi phones? How was your experience?
