Facebook is being challenged on users’ privacy issues when it comes to buying online messaging service WhatsApp. In a complaint filed with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a privacy group demanded the release of Facebook’s detailed action plan on WhatsApp. Until the social media company provides that information about WhatsApp, Facebook will not be able to complete the acquisition of the service. The group said.

However, at the time of the announcement of the purchase of WhatsApp, Facebook stated that the chatting service would continue to be independent even after the ownership of Facebook, and that Facebook would respect the terms and conditions that existing users of the app have signed up for. That is, Mark Zuckerberg’s online firm will not sell WhatsApp users’ personal information to any advertising agency, such as email addresses, phone numbers, etc.

The world’s largest social networking service makes money by displaying ads on the Facebook site. It has more than 1.2 billion users. WhatsApp, on the other hand, has about 450 million users. Buy WhatsApp Facebook is spending 19 billion US dollars.

Although Facebook has said it will not change WhatsApp’s privacy policy, privacy groups are not satisfied with the assurance. They say they also bought the photo-sharing service Instagram earlier Facebook, In which case the social firm has finally changed the policy despite giving the same assurance.

And that’s why the plaintiffs are trying to ‘force’ Facebook to protect WhatsApp data through FTC.
