Security research firm AVG in a recent report Reported, They have detected an Android malware / virus that is capable of stealing user information from the phone even after turning it off.
That’s why the malware first took control of the shut-down process of the Android device. Then when users turn off the device, it displays some text / image / animation on the screen that makes it look like the device is turned off. But in reality the phone is still on.
In this case, the malware can record pictures / videos with the help of the device’s camera, microphone, etc. This malicious software is also capable of smuggling phone messages and contacts. It also uploads pictures, voice records and video clips from the device to cyber criminals.
AVG named this malware risk “Android / PowerOffHijack.A”. It can work on all versions prior to Android 5.0. However, the device must be ‘rooted’ for this. The company said that so far the malicious software has been found on more than 10,000 devices, most of them in China.
