Speaking at a news conference on Friday about the Covid-19 situation in the country, the NCDC director said that the Delta form was “much stronger” than Alpha. In eight states of the country, more than 50 percent of the cases have been reported. The central government earlier this week announced the ‘Delta Plus’ species of the virus as a ‘variant of concern’ in India.
However, Dr. Balram Varghese, Director, ICMR, said that the virus has not yet spread in India. The worst-hit areas are Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, West Bengal, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.
