Humayun Ahmed

Needless to say, from a young age watching TV, listening to music or reading thick novels – I didn’t have much of an inclination towards either. I was interested in electronics. I had a small laboratory at home when I was in school. It was more enjoyable for me to deal with equipment than cultural entertainment. In the midst of all this, in the short time that Kalevadra was watching on TV, one could see the work of a person, “These are quite enjoyable”! He is Humayun Ahmed. Wait, today is Sunday, the blue towel of Tithi, Missy Ali entered the magical world of Humayun Ahmed with all these.

Honestly, I didn’t have the patience to read big novels or page by page stories / literature. Apart from the literature in the textbook, I did not read much Bengali literature. Much of what I have read or learned about Bengali literature is written by Humayun Ahmed. And the rest is read as general knowledge.

I laughed most of the time watching Humayun Ahmed’s dramas and films, and sometimes I got upset. Needless to say, he was a very powerful builder. But even then, I think there is no substitute for reading Humayun Ahmed’s writings to get to know him.

The same impatience that I had with reading big stories / novels, when I read Humayun Ahmed’s writings, is quite the opposite. I like Sir’s Himu series the most, it seems new every time I read it. He really is the magician of the story! Himu’s simple ‘don’t care’ type of life is more fascinating than mystery, romance or enlightening content.

But I was not so attracted to Humayun Ahmed’s writing in school-college or even at the beginning of varsity. Sir, the day he left the world, when everyone knew, the whole Facebook newsfeed seemed to float in mourning. I also felt bad because I didn’t think he would get any new drama.

But even then I did not understand that the influence of Humayun Ahmed is a thousand times more.

I have two younger brothers on Facebook who are each other’s brothers. The eldest of them, the boy had been knocking on various computer related jobs from 2011/12. This is probably because of my tech related posts on Facebook. They complained about each other, as if I were their guardian type. The eldest of them used to put Humayun Ahmed’s picture in his profile picture from time to time. I asked him about it, he said Humayun Sir is his idol.

I still did not realize that Humayun Ahmed’s influence was so strong, so magical. Sir, on the night of the day or the day after he died, I suddenly opened the computer and saw that one of the two brothers had given a very upset and frustrated status on Facebook. I texted him on Facebook about the matter. He said, “Brother, what will I live with now, Humayun Sir has left me.” My ability to control my emotions is unusually high. At that moment I realized that he was emotionally broken. I tried to explain to him for about an hour that it is not good to break up like this, moreover, human parents do not live forever, everyone leaves. Pray to Allah that your beloved writer may be forgiven and dwell in Paradise. In the end, it was a bit normal.

But what is there in a man’s writing that is so influential among readers? My curiosity is. I talked to several other people about this. Even then I couldn’t be too much a reader of Sir’s writing.

Then I started reading some books of Humayun Ahmed from my friends. As I said before, my interest in literature and culture is relatively low. But even after that I was fascinated by the writings of Humayun Sir. I finished reading several articles of Himu series in a row. As much as it is good to watch dramas / movies made by Sir, it is much better to read the writings. Strangely beautiful all the sentences, all the wonderful word choice… really a wonderful experience.

If I hadn’t read Humayun Ahmed’s book, I probably still wouldn’t have understood that books can be human friends. Sir’s writing can be read to make the mind feel good in any situation. Positive results are guaranteed.

Humayun Ahmed sometimes seems mysterious and whimsical like Himu’s father. Just as Himu’s father did all the strange things to get rid of all the illusions of the world from Himu’s mind, Humayun Sir seems to have incarnated different characters and events in the same way. From writing to real life, everywhere. He has played strangely with the characters in his writing. He has given cruel consequences by laughing and playing different characters. Just like Himu’s father treated his pheasant. The reader will not be able to bear it, he knew that, but like Himu’s father, he has made us bear everything, sir.

Anyway, in such a short time, someone left so many dear people crying?

The story of Himu and Rupa that much more remained. Dear Humayun Ahmed Sir, why did you leave them like this? Miss you so much Are you as hard as Himu’s father? Or indifferent like Himu? Or the base of Maya like the silver character? How are you? Why are you like that God forgive you.
