The country, which is battling a third wave of the contagious disease, has again imposed stricter sanctions after a month-long lockdown in April last year, as it felt horrified by India’s corona crisis across the border. Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated in Pakistan after Eid last year. This year, businesses, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls and parks are being closed. Apart from that, the movement of public transport between different provinces and cities has also been stopped. The army has been deployed to monitor all these restrictions. In poverty-stricken Pakistan, more than eight and a half million people have been infected with Cavid 19, killing 18,600 people. However, due to limited testing and fragile healthcare systems, many fear that the true spread of the disease could be even greater.
Health officials have warned that hospitals are running out of capacity and are trying to increase intensive care beds. International flights to Pakistan have already been curtailed and borders with Iran and Afghanistan have generally been closed for commercial reasons. The border with India was already closed due to political tensions.
