Emergency Oxygen Import Stopped Through Benapole Port – Fulcrumy Health Tip

Due to the oxygen crisis in India, the import of emergency liquid oxygen used for the treatment of corona has stopped. In the last 4 days, no oxygen truck has entered Bangladesh through Benapole port. However, on April 22, an oxygen tanker was unloaded from Benapole port.

In the last one week, 1615 metric tons of liquid oxygen entered Benapole port from India through Benapole port. The import price is 175 US dollars per metric ton. This liquid oxygen is imported to Bangladesh in 29 tankers. Bangladesh Importer Linde Bangladesh Limited imports oxygen from India.

According to customs sources, a large part of the demand for oxygen in the country’s medical sector is imported from India. About 30,000 metric tons of oxygen is imported every month through Benapole port alone. Demand for this specialty has grown significantly as a result of recent corporate scandals.

The country’s medical sector is facing a major crisis, as traders are facing economic losses due to the sudden stoppage of imports.

Bangladeshi truck drivers transporting oxygen said they have been waiting at Benapole port for the last four days. But no oxygen from India entered the port.

Biswajit Das, a representative of Indian exporters, said that the export of oxygen from India has been temporarily suspended. Oxygen exports to Bangladesh have been temporarily suspended due to future demand in India.

Matiar Rahman, a representative of the oxygen importer and director of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, said that the second phase of corona infection in India is going on terribly. The number of victims is increasing day by day. India has stopped exporting oxygen for the time being as oxygen is important for the treatment of Kovid-19 patients. I hope that the friendship between Bangladesh and India will give liquid oxygen to Bangladesh recently and as a friendly neighbor. However, Linde Bangladesh is planning to import oxygen from Singapore as an alternative.

Mustafizur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Benapole Customs House, said that through Benapole port on May 1815. Bangladesh imports tons of oxygen per day. The import of oxygen from India through Benapole port has been stopped since last Thursday.
