fb-atlasMicrosoft has sold their advertising platform Atlas to Facebook. In a statement, the social networking site said the newly purchased technology would help advertisers better manage their campaigns. It will provide comparative information on costs and results in ads on Facebook and other web sites such as desktop and mobile.

Facebook says Atlas is already being used by several advertisers on the site. Now the company wants to launch a full-fledged user interface and accounting platform.

Since Facebook will earn money from these ads, so it is very important to the site. Although the popularity of Facebook advertising has been growing rapidly in recent times, there is disagreement about exactly how effective it is.

As it has its own advertiser platform, Facebook can also provide ads on external websites if it wishes. If that happened then the company would be in direct competition with the Google AdSense program. However, Facebook has not yet confirmed anything in this regard.

Microsoft, meanwhile, is arguing that selling ad units is not a way for people to see such page-based ads. The company further states that digital advertising is no longer fulfilling its promise. And by selling Atlas, from now on Microsoft will only work with its device and service division strategy.

No information has been released about the amount of money exchanged in this transaction.
