According to the Wall Street Journal and several other sources, Facebook is currently experimenting with using hashtags. However, the social networking company has not commented on this.
Hashtags are a unique feature Twitter Putting a “#” sign before a special and interesting word in a post creates a link. Clicking on a word with a hashtag displays other posts with that word on the same page. As a result, specific topics can be easily filtered.
A list of popular hashtags on Twitter is displayed as “trending” content. In addition, advertisers can buy and promote their business word hashtags.
When a hashtag is launched on Facebook, it will be able to promote users’ posts. When a company buys hashtags for their products or services, the relevant content will easily show up in more people’s newsfeeds over a longer period of time.
Currently, status, links, photo posts, pages, etc. can be promoted on Facebook, but if the hashtag is introduced, it will be able to work at a more grassroots level. Because then it will be a kind of “keyword advertising” where multiple content related to a particular word can be brought to the same page. But we’ll have to wait a few more days to see how successful the hashtag idea is.
