The Gmail system will share these according to the type of email you receive. In general you will find 5 main tabs. Of these, Primary, Social, Promotions and Updates can be seen by default. And you can add it to “Forums” and other tabs.

The primary tab is your main Gmail inbox. After that, notifications from various social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus etc. will be submitted on the social tab. The promotion tab will have mails related to various offers. In this case Groupon, LivingSocial – emails from these sites will be covered under this tab.

Mail with confirmation, recipe, bill document and other such statements will come in the updates tab. And in the forums category you will find various discussion boards, online forums, mailing lists etc. related emails. You can customize all the categories if you want.

Let’s come to Gmail’s mobile app. The Gmail application for Android 4.0+ and iPhone / iPad will have the primary tab open by default. You can also see your other tabs.
