European Union (EU) officials are planning to take legal action this summer against web company Google for violating user privacy, according to French privacy regulator CINL. Since March, Google has been collecting user-related information from search and other services across its platform, and EU authorities fear that the data could be used for advertiser purposes.

In October 2012, the European Union gave Google four months to change its privacy policy into a customer-friendly policy. The company says it has worked on the matter and that it is in line with EU law.

The EU has suggested that Google use a separate button to control “when information will be provided” for the benefit of consumers. In addition, the user was asked to leave control of any of Google’s services, the reasons for which the information will be taken. But authorities say the web firm has not done so.

According to CINL, the Internet company has not yet complied with the amendments sought by the regulatory commission. “Google did not provide a clear and concise answer. In this context, the EU Data Protection Authority is committed to taking action and conducting investigations. That’s why they want to form a CINL-led team before the summer that will coordinate with the search company’s response and authority. ”

Google claims that it respects European law and is committed to cooperating with CINL in the future.

The new privacy policy we are talking about is actually a single agreement, a combination of Google’s previous 60 privacy policies, which has been criticized by the search service provider in the past.
