Shareit is one of the most popular apps in Google Play Store with over 1 billion downloads. The app is the first choice of most users for exchanging pictures, videos, documents, and even APK files without internet connection.
Lenovo’s developed app, Shareit, is so popular that the app is owned by an independent company with the same name. However, some major security issues of this popular app have come up recently. That being said, the app has problems like user sensitive data leaks.
The security vulnerabilities of the ShareIt app came up first In a report by Trend Micro. Three months ago, Trend Micro reported the problem to Shareite developers. However, the shareite authorities did not take any steps to solve the problem.
The security issue mentioned is only available in the Android version of the app. There is a significant possibility of malware entering the phone through the app by the said bug at a significant rate. The main reason is that the app did not provide any restrictions on access to its code.
Any hacker can gain access to the ShareIt app through malware apps or during file sharing. As a result, the user may unknowingly install unwanted malware apps through the ShareIt app. Even files in local storage can be deleted or modified.
As there are no restrictions on access to the code, ShareIt users are constantly falling prey to hackers. Through the app, hackers are able to hack into the information on the customer’s phone, which is activated due to ShareIt’s bug even if the customer does not provide access to it.
Sadly, after reporting so many popular apps and problems, the Shareit authorities have not made any changes to the Android version of the app. So to ensure the security of your personal information, such as phone numbers, messages, photos, videos, etc., avoid using the ShareIt app. Instead of ShareIt, you can use WiFi Direct and Google Files app to exchange files.
