‘Illegal transactions of money and sale of certificates in private universities’ – TIB

pic_ms_private_university_14_bnA research report by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) claims that money laundering is rampant in Bangladesh, from the establishment of private universities to the passing of students. At present there are 69 private universities in the country.

Citing TIB’s research report titled ‘Private University: Challenges of Good Governance and Ways to Overcome It’, Prothom Alo writes that the study was conducted from June 2012 to May 2014. This information has been collected from 22 private universities in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet on a random basis.

According to bdnews24.com, TIB said at a press conference held at BRAC In Center in Dhaka, According to the study, transactions ranging from Rs 500 crore to Rs 3 crore have been reported for various activities including approval for appointment of VC, Pro-VC, Treasurer and approval for setting up a university.
