Apple has removed Touch ID from iPhones by releasing iPhone X in the market. Instead, more advanced face recognition technology has been added. Touch IDs have been removed from all devices except some iPad models.
Recently Apple patented Found a patent, pointing to the addition of an under-display fingerprint sensor to later devices. The patent was filed in 2016. However, it has been approved a few days ago. It is described as an optical image sensor under the display. This proves that Apple does not want to exclude the technology of biometric verification.
Apple’s new optical fingerprint sensor is probably already being used in their products. Apple recently decided to separate the Touch ID Surface from the Touch Bar on the 16-inch MacBook Pro. However, in this case the capacitive sensor was used instead of an optical sensor.
Apple is expected to add this fingerprint sensor to the upcoming iPhone in 2020.
