Although Amazon is a well-known web services company, it started with e-commerce business. Although Amazon is known all over the world, their e-commerce business is not widespread worldwide. This service was only available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and a few other countries. Local products could also be purchased from the Amazon site, which was originally a separate country domain for those countries.

Yesterday, Amazon launched an international shopping service that allows users from more than 100 countries to shop on Amazon. If you set ‘International Shopping’ as Region in Amazon Shopping App, you will see Bangladesh written as Delivery Destination. This will allow you to see the shipping charges as well as the price list with an estimate of how much tax you may have to pay to come to your country. But now you can’t get the product for shipment in Bangladesh. But if you launch the International Shipping Region in the Amazon app, you will be able to buy products with international shipping facilities. See my screenshot below.

Shopping from other countries could have been done earlier on the Amazon site, but the products were not tidy. Now in International Shipping mode you will see only those products that you can ship from Amazon United States Will be. And if the product is a little more expensive, there will be no delivery cost.

Neighboring India has Amazon services through a domain called Amazon.in. But the benefits of shipping through one of the main sites worldwide are not available from them (such as those found on AliExpress or Alibaba).

Since Amazon has just launched this service, you will not be able to enjoy all the features of the site right now. Initially, Amazon International Shopping will be available only through the Amazon Shopping mobile app and mobile browser. In that case you have to select International Shopping option instead of Country in app settings. If you notice then you will see Shipping to Bangladesh written there (or the name of the country you are in).

But the sad thing is that even though Bangladesh location is shown in Amazon app, Amazon International Shipping is not available in Bangladesh from the beginning. Also, not all types of products have this facility. You can only buy products from sellers who are willing to deliver in Bangladesh (in other cases whichever is applicable). There may also be some discrepancies in pricing in the international shipping system.

In the Amazon Shopping app, we have got the names of the International Shopping Supported countries till April 19, which are highlighted here in the screenshot.

Amazon recently plans to launch a number of services internationally in more than 100 countries, including their Prime Video and Prime Music services. In the last few years, the spread of e-commerce has increased in many Asian countries including India and Bangladesh. With that opportunity, many e-commerce startups have sprung up in our country as well as in other countries. It remains to be seen how these local e-commerce sites will compete with Amazon or how they will respond.
