This is called “Lee” IPhone The user came to work and was talking on the phone with his friend. After talking for about 40 minutes, he felt the handset warm up. Lee then stopped talking and looked at the screen of the iPhone and touched the end button to place the call. But there was no response on the screen. After several attempts, the device exploded.
Lee said he couldn’t open his eyes, which seemed to hurt. Examination at the hospital revealed that Lee’s eyeball was red and had corneal scars.
The injured iPhone user said that he bought this smartphone (iPhone 5) in September last year. Once dropped, it has a small hole in the left side of the screen, and that’s where the explosion started. The phone was usable until the accident, although its touch-sensor performance was reduced.
In this case Apple Lee is not demanding any compensation. But he’s surprised that his friend’s low-priced mobile phone screen has the same problem – but it didn’t explode.
One Apple Care workers say further investigations are needed in such cases and no compensation is usually paid under the product warranty.
