From July 1, the National Equipment Identification Register (NEIR) technology is going to be activated, through which the SIM service can be stopped in an illegal set. However, till June 30, the information of all the mobile sets in the network of Bangladesh will be registered automatically.

The database of the National Equipment Identification Register (NEIR) will synchronize the IMEI number of the mobile phone, the number of the SIM to be launched (MSISDN), biometric identification of the customers with the SIM.

It is learned that a total of 150 million mobile phone sets have already been registered, both legal and illegal. However, from July 1, only legally imported sets will be registered. According to the Director General of BTRC, before buying a mobile phone from any store, sales center or online e-commerce site, it is very important to check whether the phone is valid.

How do I verify the validity of a mobile phone?

From now on, before buying a phone, you have to check the validity of that phone. If the set is invalid, the BTRC director general has advised not to buy it. • Collect IMEI code by dialing * # 06 # on the phone you want to verify
• The IMEI code is often written on the box of the mobile or on a sticker on the back of the mobile, from where you can collect the IMEI code of the phone.

• Send SMS to 16002 in the mentioned manner
• The validity of the mobile handset will be informed in the return SMS.

What will happen to illegal mobile phones?

Invalid set of SIM services, such as calling or receiving, SIM company data, etc. cannot be used.

After checking in the mentioned method, showing any phone as valid means it is registered. However, if any set is invalid, the customer will be informed through message. After receiving the message, illegal mobile users will get three months to register their phone and SIM. Mobile can be used normally in those three months. Within the stipulated time, the customer will be able to register the mobile phone as valid by showing his / her purchase receipt or other documents.

If you do not register, after this three months, no SIM service can be used in that set.

What is the way to legalize an illegal phone? (Invalid phone registration rules) – After verifying the validity of the mobile phone in the mentioned rules, the information regarding illegal phone registration will be informed in the return SMS. According to the information received in the SMS, illegal phone registration can be done with the required information.

– Yes, mobiles can be brought from abroad. A foreign returning passenger can legally bring two mobile sets free of charge.

What will happen to phones bought legally from abroad or received as gifts?

– Phones bought legally from abroad or received as a gift will be automatically activated in the network after activating the SIM in Bangladesh. After launching, you will be asked to register the phone through a message on your mobile, there will be a link to the registration website. Can you bring more than two phones from abroad?

– Yes, more than two phones can be brought from abroad. In that case the next 6 phones of the two phones have to be brought with charges. The charges will be 55.60% for smartphones and 34.00% for feature phones with buttons.

– There is no charge or fee for registration of mobile phones imported from abroad.

– List of information / documents required for maximum two phone registrations brought with you when coming from abroad:

• Passport number
• Passport page with immigration seal issued by immigration
  Scan / image of;

List of information / documents required for registration of maximum six handsets subject to payment of duty from abroad:

• Passport number
• Scan / photo of the page with the arrival seal issued by immigration in the passport;
