This time the digital desk: Doctors are prescribing Ivermectin to reduce the viral load on the patient’s body in the critical situation of the country. Is this medicine really working like magic? Or Ivermectin is just a drug that does no harm when taken. Although recently there has been disagreement among doctors about the use of Ivermectin.

Many doctors and experts say that there is no benefit in taking Ivermectin at all. To explain, for example, doctors are combining Ivermectin with drugs such as hydroxychloroquine. Although many doctors report that the viral load is reduced by taking this drug and since there are no side effects while taking this drug, the leading doctors in the country say that Kovid patients have no problem taking Ivermectin.

“Ivermectin is actually an anti-parasitic drug,” says K Subba Reddy, a doctor at Apollo Hospital. The drug helps reduce the viral load on the body of patients with SARS-CoV-2, with no side effects. That is why many doctors are prescribing this medicine. Ivermectin is not available in many parts of Kolkata at the moment. One leaf contains two Ivermectin tablets. The price of those two tablets is around 85 rupees in Kolkata.

Although the World Health Organization or WHO has questioned the prescription of Ivermectin for Covid-19 patients. The World Health Organization recently issued guidelines stating that the drug Ivermectin may be administered to Covid-19 patients for clinical trials only. According to the WHO, there is still little evidence that ivermectin reduces viral load or reduces mortality.

Dr Pawan Garukanti says, “There is a lot more information on this than Ivermectin in the case of Remdesivir and other steroids and they have also been shown to be quite effective for covidar sufferers.”
