Polytechnic students have suspended the agitation program for 15 days after being assured of fulfilling the two-point demand.

After a four-day agitation, convener of Bangladesh Technical Student Council Zakir Hossain Sagar announced to suspend the movement after a meeting of leaders of various student organizations with the government at the secretariat on Monday.

“We have given 15 days,” he said. In the meantime, they have promised to meet all our demands. That is why we are suspending the movement for 15 days. ”

It was informed at the press conference after the meeting that the students of Polytechnic will be considered as Diploma Engineers. The related gazette will be published in a few days.

Housing Secretary Khandaker Shawkat Hossain said, “The situation has arisen from a misconception. We have already decided to consider Diploma Engineers as Diploma Engineers and I would like to say to everyone, we have not created the post of Supervisor in any way. I would like to say to the students, when they join the job, their position will be Deputy Assistant Engineer. ”

Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said, “I hope the students will withdraw their movement now. They will be considered as diploma engineers. ” He added that a decision would be taken soon on the issues which the students had boycotted due to the movement.

Polytechnic students are protesting for the fourth day today. Police personnel were shot dead in Rajshahi along with vandalism in several places and students have protested in Bogra violating Section 144.

Announcing the decision to suspend the movement, Sagar said, “All students will take part in the exams. No one will be on the streets anymore.”

Demanding the release of the students arrested in the movement, he said, “We have arrested three hundred and fifty students. We will give the test in three days. We want to test them. “
