The verdict in the dispute case between India and Bangladesh over an area of about 25,000 sq km in the Bay of Bengal has been published. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali told a news conference at the Foreign Ministry in Dhaka on Tuesday that Bangladesh has got 19,046 sq km of the disputed 25,602 sq km area between Bangladesh and India in the Bay of Bengal. India got 6,135 sq km in the verdict.
The foreign minister said, “This verdict has ensured victory for both the states. This victory is the victory of friendship. This victory is the victory of the people of Bangladesh and India. ”
“In order to ensure fairness, the tribunal has given 19,046 sq km of the disputed 25,602 sq km sea area to Bangladesh.”
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali thanked the Indian government for its willingness to resolve the maritime dispute peacefully and for accepting the tribunal’s verdict.
The new maritime boundary with India has been determined by the International Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands.
A copy of the judgment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) of the Netherlands was handed over to Bangladesh and India on Monday and it was made public today as per the rules of procedure of the court.
From 9 to 16 December 2013, Bangladesh and India presented arguments in favor of delimitation of maritime boundaries at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague, Netherlands.
