The world’s largest solar-powered power plant has officially launched in the Mojave Desert, California. The plant was officially launched on February 13 after years of testing. The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is jointly owned by NRG Energy, BrightSource Energy and Google. The new plant is expected to generate about 30 percent of the total electricity generated by all solar power plants in the United States. It is known.
The Ivanpah Solar System has three 459-foot-tall towers surrounded by tens of thousands of robotic garage-door sized mirrors.
These mirrors reflect sunlight and fall into the water boiler (water tank, where the water can be converted to steam) by heating the water above the tower concerned and generate electricity after converting the heat energy into mechanical energy.
The NRG says the plant has an area of about 5.5 square miles, making it the largest power plant in the world. It will supply electricity to 140,000 homes in California.
The owner of Ivanpah claims that the newly launched power plant will be able to provide ‘clean energy’ (without disturbing the environment).
Although, The Wall Street Journal Reportedly, due to the reflected light of the mirrors used in the plant, the birds traveling in the area had to change their direction.
Local conserved turtles were also removed during the construction of the system.
