Apple has announced so many new products and services in one day at their developer conference that there is a lot of confusion about what to write about. One of the highlights of their Kinot Speech was the new version of Mac OS they named Catalina. The new version will start rolling out among the customers in a few days.

Before that let’s take a look at some of the new features of this new version.

There is no iTunes

No, there is nothing to be disappointed about. Even without iTunes, three different apps have been created with all the features of iTunes. These three apps are called Music, Podcasts and Apple TV. ITunes is one of the most popular apps on Apple devices. But in recent times, with a single app with so many features, Apple seems to be making a mess of everything. So everything has been set apart in Catalina. Many may be wondering how to sync your iPhone or iPad without iTunes! No problem. Now you will get all the features to sync Mac’s Finder app.

Screen time monitor

You are familiar with this feature on Android or iOS. With this you will get a report from the settings on how much time you have given to different apps. You can also set a timer for distracting apps or games to avoid wasting time. This is definitely going to be a working feature.

New “Find My” app

This new app called Find My is going to be a hub of Find My Mac and Find My Friends feature. Finding your Mac has been made easier with this new Find My app. You can also find out if your Mac is lost or stolen through this nice feature. Even if the Mac is turned off, it will act as a low-energy Bluetooth beacon that will share its location with nearby Apple devices without any internet connection. This way many devices can easily reach the location by setting up a mesh network.

Voice control

Macs, like smartphones, can now be controlled with voice. This feature will be very helpful for multitasking or for the physically challenged. It’s not just like Siri or Google Assistant. Rather, almost all of Mac’s work can be done through e-voice.

IPad secondary display

From now on you can use your own iPad as your Mac’s second display if you want. It works both wired or wireless. However, this feature could have been obtained earlier using a third party app. But now that it is a native feature, the experience is supposed to be better.

Activation lock

This feature allows you to lock activation with your iPhone or any other device if your Mac is stolen or in the hands of unwanted people. As a result, if you want to use the Mac again, you have to login again with Apple ID. This feature is only available on MacBook with T2 security chip.

Auto light and dark mode

Apple first introduced Dark Mode on Mac OS Mohave. However, in this new version, it has been taken one step further. From now on, if you want, you can select auto mode from settings so that the theme changes to light or dark mode according to the time of day.

Farewell to 32 bit

Mac OS Catalina does not use any 32 bit apps. If you have a backdated 32-bit app, if you don’t update it to 64-bit, it will stop working after installing the new Mac version. This is the end of the 32 bit era.
