Surely you remember Nokia’s PureView technology? The “revolutionary” smartphone camera with a 41-megapixel sensor, which was first released last year. The equation is such that Symbian ends where Pureview begins. Symbian was Nokia’s one-time market-shaking mobile operating system. But in the evolution of time, Nokia could not survive the competition with Apple iOS and Google Android powered devices. And that’s why now they have chosen Windows Phone operating system. The Symbian era ended in 2012 with the Nokia PureView 606 smartphone.

The Finnish company has done well with Microsoft’s mobile OS. Lumia series devices sold more than expected in the last quarter of last year. And a new news has blown in that sail. That is, PureView is also coming to Lumia phone!

Nokia PureView’s 41-megapixel camera sensor has aroused a lot of interest among technology lovers from the very beginning. The flagship Lumia 920, powered by Windows Phone 8, also used the “PureView” brand, but its camera sensor was only 8 megapixels. Even then the optical image stabilization and the ability to take relatively good pictures in low light are able to respond to the market.

Nokia’s 41-megapixel PureView technology was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2012. What we usually see is that the higher the number of megapixels in a mobile camera, the larger the image size. As such, some people may think that the size of the picture taken on the PureView smartphone is much larger. But here too Nokia has introduced a different strategy. Although the sensor is 41 megapixels, after image processing you can get 8 megapixel equivalent size photographs. So what is the benefit with such a large sensor?

As it has more pixels, it can take good pictures even in low light. The Lumia 920 did not have a 41-megapixel lens, but it did have a “floating lens” technology, which ultimately helped save PureView’s reputation. If Windows Phone Eight has a combination of a huge sensor and a great lens, then at least Nokia will undoubtedly be far ahead in the competitive market for smartphone cameras.
