In return for this hefty sum, the RSA opened up some backdoors in their encryption system / cryptography that would allow the company’s customers to access encrypted filesheets at any time. NSA– That’s what Reuters says.
According to some previously leaked documents by Edward Snowden, the random numbers used by RSA users when encrypting NSAWas set up (via a special formula) that gave easy access to the computing system. The RSA’s security tool, B-Safe, was also weakened in exchange for money, Reuters reported.
DUAL_EC_DRBG was used as a random number generator in B-Safe software. Although it was supposed to create random numbers / serials, a fixed number was set in the tool. This fixed number could be used as a ‘master key’. Because anyone who knows this fixed number will be able to decrypt the cryptotext.
DUAL_EC_DRBG has been the subject of suspicion for years as a random number maker, as its algorithms have been slow except for fixed numbers. But little is known about its depth before Snowden’s document was released.
Of course, the allegations brought by Reuters Denial RSA has done. The company said it had not entered into any such agreement with the NSA or taken any money.
