So, according to this ruling, the way to blame Google for using Java on Android is wider for Oracle.
Danger signal for mobile industry?
Oracle bought Java from Sun Microsystems in 2010. That same year, the database company filed a lawsuit against Google alleging infringement of Java’s 36 APIs (application programming interfaces). Google has used this Java technology in the open source mobile operating system Android. Oracle has demanded কোটি 1 billion in compensation.
In May 2012, a US court ruled in favor of Google. The judges then said that Google did not infringe on the copyright of Oracle by using Java on Android. The judges further ruled that no copyright of the API could be obtained.
However, the judgment of the appellate court on Friday turned the whole case around. The judges said that some of the Java code used by Google on Android could be protected under copyright law.
However, Google’s ‘Fair Use Defense’ needs some more review. In the end, if Google loses to Oracle, Google will pay Oracle a hefty fine. And then it may be necessary to change the Android platform.
