Unable to survive in the battle of the consumer goods market, the once popular company has since decided to develop comparatively more profitable airplane systems, parts and enterprise products.
Although demand for plasma TV units is higher than for LCD televisions, Nikkei reports that Panasonic has already stopped investing in the plasma sector.
Panasonic’s TV business boomed in 2009. Then in one year the company’s television sales revenue exceeded one trillion yen (. 11.5 billion). At the time, it was thought that by 2015, sales would drop by almost half. But Panasonic’s TV sales happened ahead of schedule. The company’s TV unit has not made any profit in the last five quarters.
Panasonic is considering customers who are slowly winding down the business without shutting down television production immediately. Because it takes some time to settle the transactions that have been made with the consumers in different matters.
However, the Japanese maker is moving ahead with a project to make LED panels with Sony, despite moving away from plasma and other TV technologies.
