Computing giant Intel will lay off 5 percent of its workforce worldwide this year. The company said this on Friday, just one day after the release of its 2013 earnings statement. If the decision goes ahead, Intel’s global workforce will lose at least 5,300 employees. Intel has 108,000 employees worldwide. If 5% is deducted from here, the number of job-cuts stands at 5300. A spokesman for the company told Reuters that the cuts would help them better shape their human resource needs from a business perspective.
Intel has been at the forefront of computer chip manufacturing for many years. But the decline in PC sales in recent years has had a negative impact on Intel’s profits. And the decision to lay off workers is thought to be the result of these incidents.
