Black fungus has recently raised fears in the Corona situation. In medicine it is called mucormycosis. After the recent outbreak of Black Fungus in India, it has been reported that Black Fungus patients have also been found in Bangladesh. According to the Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), it will be possible to confirm this after examining the patient’s samples.
The Department of Health has asked not to be concerned about the black fungus until all laboratory tests confirm that all the information is available.
Experts say it is not certain that this will be due to Corona alone. Black fungus is scattered in our environment. These fungi are scattered everywhere in the environment. People are constantly exposed to these fungi. But these fungi are not harmful to most healthy people. Because a healthy body has a strong immune system.
However, the effects of the fungus can be severe in those who have a deficiency in the immune system, or who have chronic diseases such as diabetes, or who are receiving treatment that weakens the immune system. However, experts say it is a very rare disease, with a 50 percent risk of death. These patients have a much higher risk of contracting black fungus due to lack of immunity. Black fungi are also called opportunistic microorganisms due to their ability to kill such shrubs.
Hospital officials suspect that a patient who had already died at the capital’s Bardem Hospital had died of black fungus. IEDCR has taken initiative to test its sample. A 53-year-old man from Satkhira is undergoing treatment for black fungus at the hospital.
Head Professor of Respiratory Department of the hospital. Md. Delwar Hossain said the man, who was undergoing treatment, recovered from Corona about a month and a half ago. He was rushed to this hospital from Satkhira with fever. She has asthma, uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure.
Concerns and anxieties about black fungus have been created all over Bangladesh, said the spokesperson of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. Nazmul Islam.
However, he said, this black fungus has been with the environment since ancient times. In special cases, in some cases, it may be seen as an outbreak or an outbreak.
Professor Dr. Nazmul Islam said the black fungus could be a real danger to those who have to use steroids in covid conditions, who have low immunity or who have uncontrolled diabetes.
Even before Corona, there was black fungus in our surroundings, said the Deputy Program Manager (Medical Biotechnology) of the Department of Health. Marufur Rahman Apun said that the spores of this fungus are present in air, soil and other organic matter. It enters the human body as a means of respiration. Many of us may have come in contact with this fungus in this way. But nothing happened to us because of immunity. People with normal immunity are not affected by this disease.
‘However, for those whose immune system (severe immune suppression) is very weak, it can happen. This is especially true for those with diabetes who are taking uncontrolled and excessive steroids, “he said.
