Publication of 3G license policy: The auction will be held on 24th June

A notification has been issued inviting proposals and applications from organizations interested in providing commercial third generation mobile networking services in Bangladesh. The much awaited 3G license auction will be held on 24th June after verifying the applications and proposals received. On February 14, BTRC (Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission) also published the final policy in this regard. At a glance, some aspects of the 3G license policy:

> The base price for participating in the auction will be calculated at 20 million US dollars per MHz.
> Application fee 5 lakh.
> License fee is 10 crore rupees.
> Annual license fee 5 crore.
> The auctioned company has to deposit 60% of the total allocated wave value within 30 working days and the remaining 40% within the next 180 working days.
> Initially the license will be given for 15 years. After that there will be an opportunity to renew every five years.
> The auction will be held in eight blocks of five MHz.
> A total of five 3G licenses will be issued.
> 3G license holders will be allowed to provide 4G services later. In this case the decision about the wave will be made.
The last date for submission of this application along with BTRC Chairman is 12 May 2013 at 12 noon.
> BTRC has to pay 5.5% of the gross income of 3G licensed companies and social responsibility fee at the rate of 1%.
