Highlights
- We know that many mothers in this country suffer from malnutrition and anemia, which is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality.
- There are some common social superstitions behind this.
- In our country, the physical and mental care of mothers during pregnancy is still neglected.
According to experts, maternal mortality is caused by a lack of awareness about reproductive health, lack of access to essential health care during pregnancy and childbirth by incompetent midwives. The Government of India declared April 11, Kasturba Gandhi’s birth anniversary as National Safe Motherhood Day. This day has been observed since 2003.
Now the question is, to what extent have we, as children, fulfilled our responsibility to the mother? Demonstrating love, affection and responsibility towards the mother is not for the occasion, but for the day. We should all take care that mother does not get hurt or sad in any of our behavior. Now, if those mothers fall into the lap of death while trying to maintain the speed of human movement in the world, then the responsibility of its negligence must rest on us. So we have to follow a very calculated path.
The theme of this year’s Safe Motherhood Day celebration is ‘Stay at home during coronavirus, keep mother and newborn safe from coronavirus’. Safe motherhood means that all women get a safe and healthy environment during pregnancy and childbirth. Maternal mortality rate in India is 15%. Every year, 44,000 women in India die due to care deficiencies during pregnancy.
In India, women get four prenatal check-ups during coronation. Experts think that it has decreased by 51 percent. And the number of institutional deliveries has decreased by 69 percent. “We have seen a huge increase in maternal mortality during the Kovid-19 epidemic,” said the executive director of the Population Foundation of India. This crisis has shown us that the necessary services need to be strengthened to deal with emergencies.
