Millions of iPhone users around the world have set passwords on their iPhones to prevent unwanted logins. But after installing the latest software update on the handset powered by iOS operating system, that password will no longer provide the same security as before, as a loophole has opened the door for hackers.
In some special ways, the iPhone’s email, contacts, text messages, voice mail and even video calling features can be used in a locked state without a password from an iOS 8.1 powered mobile.
TechCrunch, a technology and electronic gazette blog, called the bug a major backdoor for iOS 8.1.
Earlier, another similar bug was found in iOS 4.1 software.
In this method, by dialing an emergency number (emergency call such as 112, 911) it is cut off and the device is put in “unlocked mode” by pressing some more buttons. Basically, in this process, the “phone app” of the iPhone can be accessed and from there it is possible to use services like call log, messages etc.
However, such security bugs have already been seen in software companies other than Apple, such as Microsoft’s software. However, Apple has always considered their platform to be much more secure than the products of competing companies. But over the past few years, the company has come under fire for its “Mac Defender” and other deadly malware attacks. Even Eugene Kaspersky, CEO of antivirus maker Kaspersky, said last year that “Apple is 10 years behind Microsoft in terms of security.”
