WhatsApp is the main means of communication for millions of people around the world. Although apps like Telegram are ahead in terms of features, WhatsApp’s hassle-free and easy-to-use interface makes users feel more comfortable using WhatsApp. When adding a new feature to the app, WhatsApp always ensures that it is compatible with the previous version. The company owned by China Facebook does not have to worry about adding new features to WhatsApp to keep it user friendly. But in a few days, some new features are going to come in WhatsApp, the main one being Face Unlock feature.

WhatsApp already has a fingerprint unlock feature so that no one else can read private chats in violation of privacy. Although there is a face unlock feature, it has not been used for WhatsApp unlock so far. To that end, WhatsApp is working to add more new biometric verification methods. Adding a face unlock feature will change the name of the “fingerprint lock” settings to “biometric lock”.

The idea is that the Face Unlock feature will work using the Android BiometricPrompt API. This APIT basically performs biometric authentication using face scanners and fingerprint sensors. However, it is not yet certain when the Face Unlock feature will be available on WhatsApp.
