The first spacecraft sent to the comet ‘Phile’ has woken up!

The first spacecraft, Phile, successfully landed on a comet last November. But within hours of landing, it lost contact with Earth. This incident was then referred to as Phile’s ‘hibernation’. Now the vehicle woke up after about 6 months. The robot was sent to examine comet rocks and ice.

The Phile Lander uses solar energy. But it landed on a comet where it was basically dark. So its solar cells could not produce electricity, so it went into hibernate mode.
