The government will sell unused bandwidth of submarine cable

submarine-cableThe government has decided to sell the unused portion of bandwidth obtained from the only submarine cable CM-U-4 in Bangladesh. This information was provided by Post and Telecommunications Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique to bdnews24.com. Reported. The newspaper quoted the secretary as saying, “The decision was made keeping in mind the amount of bandwidth that the country will need by 2021”; “Unusual bandwidth was supposed to be leased but the meeting decided to sell it.”

The government will soon advertise the sale of bandwidth. Abu Bakar Siddique said that about 60 crore rupees will come from this sale.

Citing unused bandwidth as a financial loss, he said: “The decision was made because the submarine would only sell CM-U-4’s unused bandwidth without leasing it, which would bring in three times more money”; “This submarine cable will expire in 2025.”

“The use of six alternative submarine cables (ITC or international terrestrial cable) has further reduced its use.”
