Things You Should Know About Smartphone Cameras

People who don’t love to take pictures may not be found. We all fulfill that hobby with the help of smartphones at hand. However, various things related to the camera of the smartphone, such as – megapixel, ISO, sensor, macro, we have heard about it all the time, but we may not know the meaning. Today we will learn about 12 things related to smartphone camera.

Megapixels

The first word that comes to mind when talking about the camera of a smartphone is megapixels. That being said, the higher the megapixels, the better the phone’s camera. The image captured on the camera is made by a tiny unit called a pixel. That is, one megapixel equals one million pixels. Accordingly, the more megapixels the camera has, the more pixels the image taken by it. However, there is no guarantee that the picture will be better if it is more megapixels. The final result after taking a picture depends largely on the post processing of the picture.

Aperture

Aperture is a hole in the camera. The pupil controls the amount of light entering the eye, such as the aperture and the amount of light entering the camera. F / 1.5, F / 2.4 etc. means the aperture is represented. The lower the aperture, the better the camera will be able to take pictures in low light.

Sensor

When the light comes on after opening the lens, the reflection of a scene is created in the sensor. The value of the sensor must control the quality of the image taken. The bigger the censor, the less noise will come in the picture.

Shutter speed

Shutter speed is also called exposure time. The time when the shutter is open for light to enter the sensor is called shutter speed. That means fast shutter speed is needed to capture any moving object.

Depth of field / bokeh

Depth of field is the part of the picture that is clearly visible. This tendency to blur the background while keeping the main subject in mind while taking pictures is also known as bokeh. Since smartphones use cameras with much smaller lenses than ordinary cameras, separate camera sensors are used to bring this depth of field or bokeh effect to the image.

ISO

The ISO is used to indicate how sensitive the camera sensor is to light. There is a universal rule in the case of ISO, which is – the lower the light, the higher the ISO to get better pictures. Phone cameras have the opportunity to change the iOSO up to a certain limit.

White balance

White balance is the literal form of how the camera controls the color of the image. Occasionally the image appears more yellow or reddish than usual due to incorrect white balance settings.

Optical image stabilization

Using a functional lens element and gyroscope sensor, the camera’s movement is reduced when taking pictures, which helps to take relatively good pictures. This feature is called OIS or Optical Image Stabilization. This is one of the most useful and useful features of video recording.

Camera zoom

What is zoom – it is not unknown to anyone. Optical zoom is the zoom that is used when taking pictures using the existing zoom lens on the phone’s lens. In the case of images taken using optical zoom, the details of the image are not lost. The zoom that is used when taking pictures using the phone’s software is known as digital zoom. Images taken using digital zoom reduce image quality at a disproportionate rate of zoom.

ADR

With HDR or High Dynamic Ranger, it is possible to get a more beautiful picture by changing the dynamic range of the image. Usually in HDR mode a few images are combined to give a good result. HDR mode is currently available in the camera app of all smartphones.

Ultra-wide

Relatively open horizons are captured by reducing the focal length of the camera or using a camera lens with a shorter focal distance. The camera feature used to capture these images is known as Ultra-Wide.

Macro

Macro is the camera mode that is used to take a close-up of a subject. Macro lenses or modes are used to photograph a coin from a distance of a few centimeters, or of a kit sitting on the leaves of a tree.
