Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Sunil Kanti Bose hopes that this service, also known as Long Term Evolution or ‘LTE’, will provide more affordable internet in the country. State-owned telecommunications companies BTCL, Bangladesh Internet Exchange Limited (BIEL), Banglalion, QB, and Mango are licensed to launch the service. Each of these companies will have to pay Tk 248 crore for the license.
Bangladesh Internet Exchange Limited (BIEL), owned by the Russian company Multinet, has already paid Rs 248 crore and received LTE licenses and waves in 2600 bands, a BTRC official said on condition of anonymity.
Sunil Kanti Bose said, “According to the policy, this operator can only provide data services, not voice services in any way.”
