Grameenphone, the largest mobile phone operator in Bangladesh, has been promoting ‘3G Smart Plan’ for several days now, offering ‘Unlimited 3G’ services throughout the month. But before launching these packages, it is very important to know their terms. Because, the terms of GP ‘smart’ plan may not seem so smart from the point of view of internet customers.

The purpose of taking 3G data package is to use high speed internet. But if you get 128 kbps (kilobits / second) speed (i.e. 16 kilobytes / second) there, can it be called smart?

Fair usage policy (or FUP is applicable) on GP’s smart plans after using 500 MB in Taka 299 package, 1 GB in Taka 499 package and 2 GB in Taka 799 package; That is, after using data up to this FUP limit within the specified period, the customer will continue to enjoy unlimited internet at 128 Kbps.

But it won’t take long for 3G to cross the FUP limit. Then you will get only 16 kilobytes / second speed. So what does the GP say, ‘Saramas Unlimited 3G’? The 2G network also has a speed of more than 16 kilobytes / second. But is Grameenphone asking customers to enjoy 3G services with less speeds than 2G?

Smart Pack 299 (512 kbps)

• Amount: Endless Internet (FUP after 500MB), 200 minutes Voice Call (to any local number), 200 SMS (GP-GP), 200 MMS
• Duration: 30 days

• To check usage: dial * 500 * 60 # to know the amount of remaining minutes, MMS, SMS and dial * 500 * 61 # to know the amount of data used.

Smart Pack 499 (512 kbps)

• Amount: Endless Internet (FUP after 1GB), 400 minutes Voice Call (to any local number), 400 SMS (GP-GP), 400 MMS
• Duration: 30 days

Smart Pack 699 (1 Mbps)

• Amount: Endless Internet (FUP after 2GB), 600 minutes of voice calls (to any local number), 600 SMS (GP-GP), 600 MMS
• Duration: 30 days
• To activate: Dial * 500 * 699 # or SMS SP699 to 5000
