In Maharashtra, 90 people have died of mycobacterium tuberculosis, a rare but deadly form of the fungal infection. In Rajasthan, more than 100 people have been infected with the black fungus. Rajasthan government declared black fungus epidemic in the state yesterday (Wednesday). Separate wards have also been created for this.
Who is most worried?
1.AIIMS reports that patients with uncontrolled diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, overdose of steroids, and toxilizumab have a higher risk of infection.
2. They are being treated for immunosuppressant or anticancer.
3. Patients who take steroids and tocilizumab for long periods of time are at risk.
4. Severe covid patients who are on oxygen support. They are at risk. However, in this case, if the patient is more likely to be diabetic.
What will you do if you understand that black fungus has taken up residence?
1. Abnormal black discharge or bleeding from the nose.
2. Nasal obstruction, headache or eye pain, swelling around the eyes, vision problems, redness in the eyes, difficulty closing the eyes, inability to open the eyes.
3. Numbness of the mouth
4. Problems chewing or opening the mouth.
Check yourself for these symptoms as well:
- Notice if there is swelling of the face. (Especially around nose, cheeks, eyes)
- Black spots or colorlessness, feeling pain on touch, notice.
- Examine the black area and the oral and nasal area using a flashlight inside the mouth, palate, teeth or nose to see if the teeth are loose. Notice if something is feeling different.
What to do if these symptoms are caught?
- It’s better to say first, don’t panic. The brain declared an emergency. In it, the lack of oxygen in the body, starting from the chest tightness, the physical condition continues to deteriorate.
- Contact an ENT doctor immediately if you have any symptoms.
- Overnight checking for sugar levels. You have to take medicine.
- Those who have comorbidities, they have to take the medicine on a daily basis.
- Do not take any antibiotics, steroids or antifungal drugs by yourself.
