In an interview with Xinhua News Agency, Chi Nan, an IT professor at Fudan University in China, said: LED The light bulb is enough to provide internet connectivity to four computers.
But other experts have told the BBC that more evidence is needed to make the claim credible. This technology of spreading WiFi through LED is being called “Li-Fi”. However, the Chinese research team did not release any video or picture in this regard.
This technology, also known as Wi-Fi, otherwise known as VLC or Visible Light Communications, would be cheaper than conventional internet connectivity.
Earlier, in 2011, experts from the Department of Optical Wireless Communications at the University of Edinburgh demonstrated high-definition video streaming technology through LED bulbs. That’s when the name ‘Li-Fi’ originated.
Although Wi-Fi networks can be set up at a much lower cost and in an energy-efficient way than existing wireless Internet setups, one of the major limitations of this technology is that if the LED light is interrupted, the Internet connection will also be interrupted. So much more development is needed in this case.
What do you think about the possibilities and limitations of ‘Li-Fi’? In fact, when will this technology reach everyone?
