Microsoft has begun releasing its second major update of Windows 10 to the general public this year. Insiders, however, have been using the features of this update for a few months now. Microsoft has named this update as October 2018 update. There is not much visual change in this update. Rather some new features have come. If you want to go to settings and check for updates or use the Windows upgrade tool, you can now update your Windows 10 PC.
Let’s take a look at what’s new in this update.
1. Your phone
A new feature called Your Phone has been added in the Windows 10 October 2018 update. This allows you to easily sync your PC with your phone which will give you a great experience. Microsoft’s own Windows Phone platform is no longer in focus. And for iOS this feature will come soon. So for now you can easily sync messages and pictures by connecting your Android phone to PC through this feature. The most interesting thing is that if you want, you can get notifications from your PC as well as reply to messages.
2. Cloud clipboard
Many power users use third party software because the default clipboard management in Windows is not good. This time Microsoft has brought their clipboard manager by default. When you press Windows and V together, you can see your clipboard history. More importantly, it will automatically sync to the cloud, allowing you to access this clipboard from any connected device. It is rumored that Microsoft will integrate it with their own mobile keyboard Swiftkey. As a result, you can access the clipboard of the PC on Android or iOS devices.
3. Dark theme in File Explorer
Since the beginning of Windows 10, Microsoft has introduced a dark theme in their modern UI. But legacy desktop programs were out of reach. Although they have gradually adapted all the legacy software to the new UI of Windows, they have not yet come up with a better alternative to File Explorer. Although there is no change in the old UI of File Explorer, this time Dark Mode has been added to it. Hopefully this feature will work well for PC users at night or in low light.
4. Search preview
The search bar has also changed. Now when you go to the Start menu and search for an app in the search bar, a new preview pane will automatically show the recently used files in your desired app. This is similar to what the context menu shows when you right-click on a program in the taskbar.
5. New screenshot tool
They have brought a feature screen sketch of the previous version of Windows Inc. as a separate app. This allows you to take a screenshot and edit it instantly. Again, you can snip a part of the screen and put it on the clipboard. Earlier it was in a legacy program called Snipping Tool.
. Advanced Edge Browser
As always, Microsoft has added a number of new features to their Edge browser. The effect of fluent design will be more noticeable now. Besides, if you want now, you can also turn off the sound autoplay during video streaming.
. Advanced HDR and ray tracing support
If you are a gamer you will want this feature. Now more advanced output can be found on Windows HDR monitors. They are also supporting Nvidia’s new RTX 2060 GPU series of ray tracing features.
. Power usage
Now you can see the power usage of different apps in the task manager. If you use any app extra power, you can easily take action. This feature will come in handy for laptops.
9. Global text scaling
Of this update As a result, you can now make the font size smaller and larger at once from the settings. Its effect will be effective on the whole operating system starting from different apps.
10. New game bar feature
In the game bar you can now see the CPU, GPU usage as well as the average framerate of the PC. In addition, you can better manage the audio of the game from the game bar. This feature will be helpful for those who regularly stream games.
